Katie D.

Katie received her BA in English and Environmental Studies with a minor in Creative Writing from Boise State University and has been involved in the educational sphere for as long as she can remember. Katie worked as a TA for many courses throughout her undergraduate, notably writing courses, service learning courses, and courses within the Honors College. During her undergrad, Katie also worked as a Community Service Worker for individuals with disabilities of all kinds, where she helped bolster their life-skills, independence, and communication abilities. Upon graduating college, Katie worked as a ACT/SAT Prep Tutor for Class 101 in Boise, ID where she worked with rising juniors and seniors on their test-taking skills, as well as their college essays and applications. She then transitioned to working at Teton Science Schools (TSS) as the AmeriCorps Mentor, where she recruited, hired, managed, and mentored a cohort of budding field educators. Katie’s writing and communication skills were soon recognized by the company, and she was promoted to working at Mountain Academy at TSS, where she taught Middle School English Language Arts and Social Emotional Learning to 5th-8th graders within a "place-based" educational framework. Upon leaving the traditional classroom setting, Katie has since decided to transition back to tutoring, where she feels her experience in educating students one-on-one can best serve the community of Jackson, WY.

Katie’s educational philosophy is grounded in the holistic view of the student, where their academic areas of strength and areas of growth are acknowledged, attended to, and supported. She is well-versed in creating an environment where a growth mindset is the norm, and she is uplifting and positive when hardships arise. Katie specializes in test-taking skills for individuals with learning disabilities (notably ADHD), college-preparatory services, writing help, essay formulation, grammar, reading comprehension, and overall studying/organizational skills. Her experience creating effective lesson plans stems from her ample experience working with students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Katie is committed to addressing the family's goals for the student while also considering the best interests of the student and their time spent in tutoring.

Outside of the educational sphere, you’ll find Katie trail running, mountain biking, climbing, whitewater kayaking, and skiing in her free-time. Katie also works part-time as a Physical Therapist Technician at Four Pines Physical Therapy, where she is furthering her experience in education beyond the classroom and dipping her toes into medicine. If you see her in the mountains, on the river, or walking a dog she is dog-sitting around town, don’t be shy and say hello!
